As you know by now, the long awaited Talonite® EDC folder from Camillus has begun shipping. It shares the same dimensions as the original EDC folder, with the exception of a blade made from Talonite®. For those who might not be familiar with this high performance blade material, Talonite® is a chromium-cobalt alloy that has a matrix of carbides imbedded. It is NOT steel. Thus it will not rust, corrode, or stain. The handle is made from stainless steel and is skeletonized for looks and ease of cleaning. A brute strong integral lock holds the blade open.

Talonite® isn't used widely in the production knife market, and this knife is the second knife to be released with this blade material. Check with your favorite Camillus dealer today to order yours.

I can't recall -- as usual. What is the MSRP? $150-$160?

After a great deal of work on my 154CM model, managed to wear away a bit of the detente ball's ferocious grip on the blade when closed, and the lock loosened up to the point I can almost always close it with one hand. Funny, but I like it a great deal more now than when I got it.

A Talonite one sure does sound intrigueing.(sp?)

Bugs, I dont know the msrp but I bet that it is more than 200$. I have a faint memory about msrp to be 249$ - wery faint memory or a dream? Camilluns talonite fixed blades cost about 270$ and folders are generally more expensive.

Thanks, fisherk. Though we were still talking in the future, didn't even check to see if anyone had them in stock. :o

The screws Dex, the screws. What are they made of? Is it is fact anodized of some type? Thanks.

Nakano,

I would guess the screws in the pic are heat colored...I think only titanium and aluminum can be anodized, and we really wouldn't want Ti (very expensive) or Al (very soft) screws. So anyway, that's my guess...better than dex's response ;)

With that gold finish like that, they could have a titanium-nitride finish. I don't know why the screws would need a superhard finish, but there you are.

The screws are indeed TiN plated. It's not the hardness that Camillus is after, but the duration in which the gold color will stay. Heat colored screws will show scrathes, scuffs, and wear marks much faster than a good solid TiN coating will. In this case, the finish of the gold screws on the EDC will last indefinitely.

As I thought Dex. In the bicyle industry we use the same TiN plating for various titanium fasteners/ bolts.

Since the blade is made of Talonite, it would make quite good sense to have such bolts/ pivots since one may use this folder in particularly adverse environments without fear of corrosion setting in.

Here's raising an old thread. I just got a Talonite EDC and can only say that it cuts all day. This is one of the all time best deals on an EDC, so to speak.

I traded off a mint Microtech Vector (which is a very cool knife) for this Talonite EDC and am totally happy.

It's a cool size, opens smoothly with a solid steel frame lock and the Talonite edge just keeps cutting!!!
