Camillus: Thin out the Becker handle

I want Camillus to thin out the handle on the Becker line. It's too thick for me, and probably for a lot of others as well.

So, who's with me.

Me me me!
I don't mind getting it sheathed by Normark and then try and wear it everyday, but I'd think the handle would definately show if I conceal it.

Calyth, depends on your size. I find that slipping my BK7 sheath and all into the small of my back makes it disappear, if I were in the concealing business, I'd definetely consider an appropriate sheath for this kind of carry.

IMHO there are 4 things that affects concealability, in order from greatest to least:

1. Dress style, if you wear loose or baggy, you can obviously conceal alot more, I tend towards jeans and big, long, flowing open-style shirts, which I find very good for concealing dang near anything I feel like concealing, including a BK7 (with a little creativity).

2. Personal dimensions, obviously, big people can carry bigger stuff, i'm 6'5", big-boned, and clock the scales at a respectable 320lbs, so I can carry a great deal of large things discreetly (such as a 3 D-Cell Maglite, 6" Barreled Large Frame Revolver, and oh by the way, a BK7)

3. Sheath/Holster, it's really important that your sheath or holster make use of the advantages within the countours of your body, sheaths that just "hang out" are rarely going to generate the best concealability, you need to really experiment and understand what works with your body, I find the small of my back often a convenient place to put very large objects I don't want to advertise having.

And finally 4. The actual item to be carried. Haha! Bet you thought this would be more important, actually no. Unless whatever you're carrying is excessively bulky or massive in proportion to your personal dimensions(which I don't characterize the BK7 to be for most anyone over about 5'5"), size matters little provided you make the best use of the first 3 priorities. If you do encounter problems, you can make small alterations to your carried item, such as removing the handles on the BK7 and going for a cord wrap situation.

Maybe I'm preaching to the choir, but I thought I'd share my insights in the hopes that they could be of some use.

6'5"! 320 lbs! What do you need a knife for? Or a gun?

I'm 6 feet tall, 175 lbs. And I still want the Becker handles made thinner. Not for concealing it, just for holding it in my hand.
Come on everybody. Help me out on this one. Please.

Heh marty, I need a knife for cutting stuff, and a gun for shooting stuff :)

But I'm semi-pleased to mention that I've never needed a weapon in my life for my own personal defense.

Still, there's a first time for everything, be prepared.

Well given that i'm about 5'7"-5'8" (I never got around to measure) and about 150lb, the BK7 would be harder for me to conceal because of my size.
I'll probably get Normark to make a sheaht when I get around to have mine, and I'll try it out. I've handle the Beckers before and I personally think they're too big for use anyways because of my smaller hands.

I swear that I remember someone mentioning this before and the solution was that someone on the forums was making different colored and sized handles for the BK&T knives. It's been a while and I can't remember who it was now (I like the handle as is, I'm one of those "big boned" people mentioned above, so I never really ivestigated it too much) but maybe you can turn up something in the search.

I can understand the need for a smaller handle, but I personally like the originals. I use the Magnum Camp daily and also have a TacTool. IMO, they are among the most comfortable knives that I have ever used. I am a small guy, but have long fingers, and they are perfect for me. I don't carry them, so concealment is not an issue.

This is one of those areas where it is tough to please everybody. Maybe Camillus needs to offer a choice of scale thickness when ordering.
