So I've been trying to hand buff out scratches on my granddads navy knife to no avail. I've tried both bar keepers friend and brasso. People have recommended Flitz polish. Any ideas?
 
You might try some sandpaper, automotive grit 2000 or so, then proceed with the polish.
 
Swanky, welcome. I have that same knife and mine is scratched up. I'd have to go to 200 grit, then 300, on to 400 grit before it would start looking good. Sand with a block to keep it flat. DM
