Hi,
Sorry if it has been asked - couldn't find anything.
Bought off ebay camillus usmc utility knife; quite decent condition: was abused a lot. So I decided to sharpen it first. The angle of the edge was unreasonable > 50 degrees, and it did not seem to be sharpened to maintain the quality.
Spyderco sharpmaker did not give any significant results - I would say the edge has become more dull.
So I spend quite a few hours giving it new angle with a diamond stone - about 30-35 degrees. More then 40 degrees made the blade more dull to my astonishment.
After a diamond I gave it some time on a wet stone - the edge become _somehow_ shart, not though popping the hairs. I was anxious about coming home (from a campsite) and finishing up with Spyderco sharpmaker.
Guess what - spyderco has made it back dull!!! I am so very puzzled; have no idea how to proceed. My current assumption is the original secondary edge has been worn out; so now I am sharpening a primary edge, which may have a different quality.
Or the knife is a total trash and KI should retire it as a piece of history?
Appreciate any hints,
Sasha.
