Picked-up this knife for $20.00 at a local antique shop. After searching here & the internet, I still can't find out much info. on it. Looks like a Mark II, but nowhere does it say Mark II. Right side of blade base says "CAMILLUS,N.Y." and Left side blade base says "U.S.N.". No other marking anywhere. I also noticed the top of the handle looks like some form of screw-on. The leather sheath is stiched with staples (not rivets). Could this be one of the first Mark II knifes? Or some later (Korea or Viet Nam era) manufacture? The only thing wrong with it is someone sharpened the whole lower part of the blade and wore off the black finish. I was also wondering what the value might be. Thank you.

You are right, that is an early version of the Mark II with the screw on pommel. These were modified because the screw on tang was felt to be too weak a design. Very nice. Value is subjectic of course but you could monitor E-Bay sales on Mark II's and see what you could get from a collector. Most of the Camillus marked knives are also USN marked. Camillus made more than the other manufacturers, about 2 to 1 as I recall.

Thanks for the info. I wonder if it would be worth more due to it's limited production (screw on pommel)? I really didn't plan on selling it, but always like to feel like I got a good deal. I've wanted to pick-up one of these style knifes for a few years now, but they always seem to be $50.00 or more. This will be a fine addition to my Gun/Military/Hunting room.
