Howdy folks

I've got a Camillus Crewman and a Kabar BK9. The slabs on the BK9 are noticeably thinner than the ones on my Crewman, such that I switched out the slabs and am now much more happy with how my Crewman feels during use.

Can anyone with several of both old and new models (ahem Bladite) tell me whether the thicker handle slabs were unique to this design (doubtful) or if Camillus was just using bigger ones? Would the future KaBar Crewman have the thinner handles, and does the KaBar BK7 have the thinner handles?

I have the BK10 and my brother has the BK6 Patrol Machete. Camillus indeed did use thicker, and as far as I can tell, less contoured handles. If you tap on both scales with your fingernails, the two sound different as well. Tooj tells me that KA-BAR uses a Grivory with a high proportion of glass fill than Camillus used, hence the difference in sound and I'm guessing density. The handles shell thickness of the two brands are identical.

EDIT: To answer your question more fully, I doubt KA-BAR will use a thinner handle when they bring back the BK10 as Camillus never had a different scale for the model. The thicker slabs were not unique to the design, but rather the line as a whole. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

I noticed the same thing. The handle slabs on my BK-1 are also thicker than those on my KaBar BK-9.

Hey folks,
I know this thread is somehow old but there is one question that keeps me wondering:
Is it possible to attach Kabar's Grivory handles (thinner, more contured) to the old Camillus BK7?
What do you guys think?

Thanks guys!!! I already ordered the bk9 with micarta. Therefore I don't need additional handles. But I appreciate the help ;)

Yup, I have now switched out all my Ka-Bar grivory to the old Camillus stuff. It is possible.

clearly, nobody reads the FAQs of life ;0

from Camillus onward, the handles all fit each gen nicely.

the hole pattern is the same though going back to CinCin, though there are some slight differences in the metal tangs, so handles are quite 100%

the KaBar grivory fits the older BK10s just a LITTLE funny. no big thing.

when KaBar "ran out of" the Camillus stuff, they use their own design, thinner, more sculpted, up to date, and to THEIR specs. what's funny, is that almost nobody noticed :) i of course did, esp with the BK5s. i think it's been mentioned a few times. no big deal, but more people seem to like it.

mmm, KaBar is always tinkering. try to catch them at it, cuz they never say ;)
