Well, I'm new to knives, and what's the difference between Camillus and Kabar knives? They both make knives for the military? Some of their fixed military knives look similar. Thanks.

I beleive they both have had the military contract at diffrent points in history. I also think there are slight differences, like handle cross-section. Post your question in the Camilllus manufacturer's forum for more responses.

Definitely not the same company. The milspec knives are just that ... made to US military specs, thus the similarity in design. Camillus is located in central NY State, KBar in western NY State. The current KBar is resurrected from a once defunct company (I believe.) Camillus is rather large and does make models for other manufacturers, who knows, they may make some KBar products, but the milspec versions are their own productions.

It's not the pace of life that concerns me, It's the sudden stop at the end.

There is a thread about this on page six or so here. Kabar has changed hands several times in the last 50 years. Kabar also hasn't held a military contract since 1944. Camillus made more knives for the U.S. military than any other contractor. During WWII alone, Camillus delivered almost 700,000 MKII's to the U.S. military, while Kabar(Union) delivered 110,000. The current contract is held by Ontario. Camillus designed the MKII(fighting utility knife), and is the only company that has not ceased production of it since 1942. The Camillus version is mil-spec, the Kabar is not.
