Cammilus' guard is loose

I have had my dad's old Cammilus survival knife from Vietnam and it has been my campknife for as long as I can remember (he gave it to me when I was a little kid). Recently when I had it out of my pack for its ride on the sharpmaker I noticed that the guard is starting to develop a lot of wiggle room. The knife has taken tons of abuse over the years but still holds a good edge and I hate to see it fall into disrepair. Is this terminal or can it be tightened? Also what it the best thing to use on the leather handle to preserve the leather while maintaining grip. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance,
Brad

I also would like to know the answer to this question.
How does a person repair an old solder joint without comprimising the handle which may have been glued or epoxied?
Can we just carefully heat the top of the guard and apply some solder? Will that loosen the epoxy/glue to the point where it cannot be recovered or will the epoxy/glue reharden?

epoxy/glue

Epoxy is thick and good at filling in the cracks. Sometimes you can sand some of the handle material down to color the epoxy the same as the handle. Super glue is thin and good at getting into small cracks. But keep some nail polish remover around, in case you glue your fingers together.
