Camo Micarta anyone?

Sometime in the next week, I should have another batch or two of my camo micarta done. I was hoping that I could get some feedback from other hunters on this. I am trying a few things that will hopefully help some, but last batch had a problem with little bubbles in this, so not suggesting anyone use it for a knife your'e selling yet, just wondering if any makers out there with more experience with synthetic materials could try workign with this and give me some feedback on it.

Let's say two makers for now, will try to make the pieces big enough for at least 4 scales, though it depends on fabric I have around. Should be around 1/8" thick(still working on thicker batches, as limited by working time of resin).

If anyone is interested, first two people to speak up get it. I'll cover shipping, just want to make sure it will go to people who will actually work with it and give me some honest feedback. Please don't ask for it if you won't work it.

Had some people check it out at campout, as knife with these scales that I posted pictures of is an unsharpend show model I carry around now, to exhibit that handle material and exhibit sheathes from guy who does my kydex work.

Anyways, whatever, first two people to chime in(again, please don't if you're not actually going to use it), can have it.

This I have to see. I must have missed the earlier posting. It sounds cool. Put me up if you'd like. I may take me a month or so but, I'd definately give it a whirl and an honest opinion. It's your call either way.

I'll pay you a fair price. I will use it but it may be a while since I'm getting into this ivory and bone thing now. So use your judgement and DO NOT feel bad about telling me no thanks, and especially if some one else would like it now. I can maybe get a couple scales later.

Now I feel badly. Who ever else that wants it please disregard my post. I really will not use it for some time and I can ask him to sell me some when ready (honest, for sure).

Roger, If no one else chimes in this time, you can get it. If someone does, I'll make sure to keep you at top of list for when(at least in theory ;) ) I start actually selling this stuff.

Looks like J and Sylvester get these. J, I assume same address I use for Tess works for you too, so Sylvester, just shoot me an email with your address,a nd should get it off sometime this week. Err, next week, as it's already friday.

Hey Joel, next time you have a couple of handle size peices available let me know. I will be glad to pay you.

Syl,

Yeh, yeh, yeh.

Hey, you think I'm kidding about knocking one out with his camo. You might not believe this but there are a couple or three red necks over here in these here mountains. I know it for a fact. Some have actually tried to call me one. Believe it. It's true.

I'm glad you got the camo Syl. I remember seeing a pic of his camo here some time back. I liked it then and am sure it is very fine work. For now, I'm stuck on teeth, tusk ivory and bone (however, no experience on tooth yet but its to be my current knife - in progress).

Roger

Oh I believe you I have don`t have a reason not to. I wish that I could
play with some of that fancy stuff. But every time I put back
some cash for it the wife or someone else gets it:( This month
its new clothes (wife) an a gift for a wedding(which is in 8hrs
an I have not goten a sleep as yet)

Syl,

You know, I hope, what I ment by the red neck stuff is that camo would be very appealing to them here.

Sylvester, I like dealing with Chuck Leake. He has been good to me in helping me get started with Mammoth Ivory and bone. I even bought a real nice size Euopean Cave Bear tooth from him. That one I don't yet know whether I should slice into a scale set or use on a hidden tang. Its a bit wide for a hidden tang, even for a big man's hand. It's going to have to be thinned some no matter how I do it. I hate to mess with it really because of its origin, but I will.

Roger

Yep! thats what I figure. Hell before I was married
75% of my clothes was Camo an cowboy boots. An thats
was before it was Cool

John Fitch uses canvas "camo" Micarta on some of his prototypes, but I discovered it's actually the black and turquois Micarta that all the knife catalogs sell.

Here's a picture of it, and a knife with some scales of it, that is what prompted original interest in this stuff before. It doesn't look quite this light in real life, and of course, that's an old batch, this one may come out a bit different.

That's the original thread, answered some questions on making it there.

And yes, us rednecks like stuff in camo. Makes it harder for revenuers to find us. ;)

Wow! I missed that before. Boy, that looks nice. Now I can't wait to get ahold of a bit of that. Just let me know the total. It's on it's way.

OK, I'm gonna say this now, cuz if I don't, I know I'll lose track of this thread. Anyone who's interested in getting their hands on some of this when I actually start selling it, drop me an email at my registered address here on BFC(don't wanna post it here in thread just so I can avoid spiders adding it for mailing lists). I'll keep all the emails set aside in another place, so I'll let y'all know first if(well, hopefully just when), I start actually making this availble to other makers. That way I don't have to worrya bout forgetting anyone who asked for it and feel bad. :)

Hey, that looks cool !, if you had thicker stock I'd go for it. I use 3/16" - 1/4". Let us know when it comes thicker. Good work.....RDT
