Jim, What's the final grit you use before you strop?

I rarely go above 1200-2000 but I've been playing around with elmax taking it up as far as 8,000 grit ( DMT) before strop.

Even at 8,000 grit and a strop your blades still look better. The closest I can get ( all freehand) is when I go to sandpaper working my way up to 2000 grit from 100.

Thanks,

Joe

I don't really strop, I use the 6000 grit EP tape with Mothers Mag Polish on it.

I guess you are kind of stropping it with the tape and Polish. It sure comes out looking good and obviously performing well.

Next question. Do you keep all your EDC knives the same, or do you vary the final finish according to the steel and cutting job like I do? Just curious. Thanks

Joe

Most are polished, others aren't depending on what they are for.

Jim,
What edge bevel are you taking your S90V Para 2 to? I have mine at 30 inclusive (did it on a sharpmaker... took me all weekend with that steel!). I have considered taking it lower and investing in an Edge Pro. I know that you have done a lot of testing with this steel. What have you found is optimal for S90V with the Para 2 blade shape?

Pics please?

Since one of my goals is to be more like Jim, I slapped the flats of a ZDP Endura with some Mother's Mag polish for some added bling.

Nice Powernoodle! Here are my 2 Para 2's. The edge is not a perfect mirror, but its getting close. As you can see I also chamfered the handles a little. The just fit my hand like a glove now.

30 Degrees is great for that steel, that's what I use. :)
