Here's a nice little camp utility knife I made recently. I like the lines and the size of this knife. Feels really light and quick in hand.

Specs:
Hand forged from 1075 steel, clay quenched and etched dark
11" overall, 6 1/4" blade, .200" thick at the ricasso w/ full distal taper
False edge, just shy of sharp
Rounded filed thumb grip and ricasso edge
Bronze fittings and accents
Desert Ironwood handle

All comments and discussion welcome.

Looks overall elegant, and makes me want to hold it.

I particularly appreciate the detail work on the guard area.

That hamon, though? The blade is practically through hardened.

Hi Steven. Thanks for the comments. I appreciate your post. I've read your thoughts on hamon before and I will say that I totally agree with you. I prefer the hamon to be much lower on the blade. I honestly don't know why this one crept up so high, as I'm pretty careful with my temps and clay placement. On a knife, especially one this size, the hamon is purely aesthetic. This one is even from side to side and has a fair amount of activity. And while I DO prefer it to be much lower on the blade, I don't view this one as a flaw that warranted a redo.

For the record, if this had been a longer and taller bowie blade, I probably would have redone it.

Thanks again for your comments.

Hi John:

Elegant is the word for this knife.

Steven's comment about the hamon brings to mind what drives me crazy sometimes about hamon control - every once in awhile the hamon just does what it wants regardless of satanite placement. My latest bowie blade just made it to the trash bin after three tries.
