This knife is a custom order for my father. He hasn't seen it yet and he only described to me what he wanted in words, no drawing. He said he wanted a big heavy bowie with an upswept clip. I went ahead and did it without a drawing. I hope he likes it. The blade is 1/4" thick, 8.5" long out of O1. The handle is bocote. This is also the first knife I made with my name on it. I just got a personalizer etching machine given to me by my father. It is also the biggest knife I've made. Please tell me what you guys think. Thanks.

That looks real nice. Your dad will probably appreciate it more seeing how you made it based on his description. Nice work!

Ray, outstanding. I know I'd be proud to have that in my bowie collection.

Exactly the reason I'm trying to get my son started in knifemaking, so one
day I may receive a present like that! ;)

Very cool knife.

The blade shape, to me, looks ready for any work thrown at it.

Also, for a wood which is usually bland, you've got a great grain showing there.

SWEET

Mark :)

Thanks to everyone for the kind words. I want to deliver this personally so he probably won't get it until next weekend when I go to Los Angeles. I live about 3 hours north of L.A. I really like this knife and I woudn't mind keeping it if he wants something different. I don't think it's comfortable to carry around due to the weight though. I never use anything more than a light folder when camping, but everyone's different. It is really big and feels big and it's fun to play and chop with. Thanks again.

What a great effort. It looks like a real worker and probably just the perfect size too for hard core outdoor chores. The blade shape is something I know gives maximum straight edge for hard chopping and the tip shape is perhaps the strongest profile I've seen in a while. And I mean, strong, as in - thats not likely to break, is it ? Keep up the good work. Jason.

Jason, I think the tip is very strong. Here's a close up of it. I made it pretty wide and thick for strength but I may have sacrificed stabbing ability. That's why I call this a camp bowie and not a fighter style bowie. The next one I make will probably have a more pointy tip with a straight clip instead of curved.

The knife looks verey good. I think one of the best things related to knifemaking is to be able to give the knives as gifts and see the smile on people´s faces when they get them.

Ivan,

Nice workmanship. I promise... If you give me one like your Recurva or a big
chopper as a gift, you'll get a BIG smile. :D
