Has anyone ever used Camp-Dry on clothing? I have a lined canvas shirt and pants that I would like a little more water-resistant to dewy fields, misty rain, etc. I don't expect rain-proofness (though that would be nice), since breathability is more important the majority of the time. Any experience or tips are welcome.

I have read it, and it says the smell goes away after it dries completely. Are saying it doesn't?

it took forever... atleast a week outside drying.. you know, i did spray a coat one time. turned out ok.. my idea would be to test try it on another piece of clothing.. also, why dont you just buy a light rain jacket?

A week?! Well that's good to know. If that's the case, I'm going to try it out on one or two non-critical things first. Thanks for the heads-up on that one.

Rain jackets are OK, but I seem to get just as wet wearing one as not if I'm out long enough (which is usually the case). They tend to be noisy and less than durable too. I wanted my field clothes to have at least some repellency, so a little mist didn't ruin my day too quickly, you know?

I use Atsko Silicone water guard by sno seal. It comes in a can with a florescent cap. Wally world has it in the camping section. The smell goes away overnight and works pretty well.

I've used that stuff to "restore" paddling/rain gear when water stops beading on the surface. Worked good for that purpose and the smell was a non-issue when it dried.

I've used Camp-Dry extensively, but was never very happy. Limited effectiveness and longevity on the materials its designed for and very poor breathability. Closest thing to your use is a polyester jacket I used to wear cycling sometimes. It worked ok but not great... And yes, dry time takes forever.

Basically, I would highly recommend exploring other options before using Camp-Dry. Especially Nikwax. Recently switched over to this for my shells (nylon and/or goretex) and it works amazing. They make various waterproofers for nylon, fleece, etc which you can add right into the washing machine- very easy.
