This is a field/camp bowie I made for my 14 year old son for Christmas. Its a complete take-down frame handle bowie. Blade is 7 1/2" long and forged from 1075. All the fittings, scales and frame are black g-10 with red turbo glow accents.

I even brought my leather working tools and skills (if you can call it that) out of retirement to make the sheath system.

Your handles always look comfortable.
Thank you. I try hard to keep comfort at usability at the forefront of my designs, no matter how embellished they end up.

I was fully prepared on this build to sculpt and contour the handle and I really thought it would need it to not feel thick and chunky. But once assembled, I really felt it was perfect as it was and as a side bonus, I really like the pattern in the g-10 with that straight taper. The filework on the top and bottom of the frame at both ends I left just a little proud and that provides all the extra grip one might need.

Beautiful job as always sir...👌 I'm sure hell treasure it for ever👌👌👌.

Nice pants too..👍👍👍. 😉
Thank you! I usually can make a functional and durable sheath, it lacks the refinement of a true leather professional but my son likes it.

Fantastic, John. I can only imagine the pain it caused you to put a guard on that knife. :p
Hahaha... it's so LAAAAME....lol.

In this case, it probably actually will help keep him from cutting himself a bit so I bit the bullet and did it. It actually furs the design pretty well.

Exceptional as always, buddy.

I can’t believe that your youngest is FOURTEEN already. 🤦🏻‍♂️

I’d like to point out to everyone that what they’re seeing here, all the fine details and file work are done freehand, by hand, by John. In an era where everything is turning to automation or dumbed down into third rate ‘utility’ finishes, seeing fastidious work like this feels like it’s being swept aside by poorly conceived, slab handled turds with no thought to form beyond the occasional smoothing of edges. THIS is what handmade is supposed to look like.

Absolutely agree, Matthew. John’s work is exceptional.

“Slab handled turds?” Matt, you’ve outdone yourself - you bring joy to my life as a troglodyte knife maker👍🙏🤣

Thank you man....I appreciate that so much. 🙏

Time flies. My oldest makes both of us look small. And puts my beard to shame....and he's only 16!

Gonna call you soon. I've got some stuff that I HAVE to get done, long over due...but I want to catch up.
