This is my second try at finishing a knife. Gene Martin ( http://www.customknife.com/ ) made the blade and heat treated it, I finish sanded it, etched out the hamon, and installed the handle (stabilized spalted maple). Gene was incredibly knowledgeable and nice about walking me through the finishing process. His work is fantastic and I highly recommend him to anyone that wants to get into knife making but does not yet have the tools to forge/heat treat, like myself. The knife is not perfect (my fault entirely, not Gene's), but I intend it to be my main user for camping/hunting and am really happy with it.

I would also like to thank Ryan Weeks for posting this guide for finishing a knife and bringing out the hamon ( http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/997744-My-Hamon-Process ) I used that guide extensively.

Nick Wheeler's guide to sanding also proved invaluable ( http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/892583-hand-sanding-video-a-couple-tips-Pro-photos-of-finished-knife-added ) so thank you to both of you for your help, even though you did not know you were helping haha.

Here it is:

Sorry about the cell phone pics, they are the best I could do for now. Now I just need to make a sheath and put the final edge on it. Any comments or constructive criticism is welcome. Thanks!

I like it a lot.
Great job with bringing out the hardening line.

Thanks giedymin, Ryan Weeks' method of using the felt moving pad w/ polishing powder worked fantastic at bringing out the ashi (I think that's what it's called?) I definitely have a new found respect for knife makers as this took months of working off and on and I still didn't get it perfect, but for carrying and use it will do just fine.

Awesome work Garrett, Glad my Hamon write up helped. I really like the knife and you did an amazing job on the handle work.
