I'm going camping in a few hours and got to thinking about which khukuris to bring. My 16.5" WWII by Bura of course, but what else... Desided on my two Sirupatis. I figure if I can't do it with those, my 9" and 5" saws and a few other knives, it doesn't need to be cut. At least where I'm going. ;)

Have been using the 20" Sirupati and 16.5" WWII combo for a few years now and so far it's been great. Sometimes I'll throw in the 15" AK if I think there will be some Heavy duty chopping going on. For those that don't know, my 15" AK is 5 to 7 years old made in Shop 1 or right after the move to the current shop, No Kami mark. It's also 1/2" thick and weighs in at around 2 pounds. It's mainly for limbing large trees.

Do you guys have any combos you like to take camping? Lets have some fun and maybe we all can learn something. Or make it harder to resist the erge to buy things. he he he he

I like taking the Pen knife.

Great to chop wood for the fire and then flip pancakes later.

Nasty, you are joking about pancake flipping aren't you?

BTW almost bought a Pen knife the other day so I could take it with me tonight. Sure is a nice knife.

No...why?

Okay...it'd be hell on one of those fancy so-stick pans, but works fine for cast iron. I've not had anyone try steal my pancakes since I got it.

15" BGRS villager (with a Mora and a nearly file hard antique chakmak in the scabbard with it) and a Sarge knife. Take into account that someone is usually packing a splitting maul and I'm covered. If the maul's AWOL, it's just a bit more work to cut myself a nice baton and split with the BGRS.

Camping's just about done for this year. Next year, the FF will get some time in the hot seat. I'm not budging on the Sarge though.

Nasty it's obvious that the pen knife aka tactical spatula is designed as a BURGER flipper;) I love my little PK. It's a great compact package.
I'm from the tool, small, large campinging line of thinking. I'll pack some sort of leatherman/SAK, my ever so trusty Sarge knife, and a big boy to handle the fire wood/critters like a 22" GRS, WWII, or the utilitarian YCS.
Hope you have a safe and fun trip, Heber.

Jake...if it's purely a camping trip, a SAK and the Pen are all I need (and my ball-peen).

Firewood, clearing a path, digging a hole (cat style), cougars or pancakes (okay...burgers too....and those little sausage patties!)...the SAK/Pen covers it.

I'm not afraid to whack it with a big stick (um...baton in young terminology) either for splitting big stuff.

I'm surprised that we don't see them available every day...any camper, canoer, anybody outdoors ought to have one.

Dan...this is going to keep going long after we are gone...ya done good!

My khukuri for camping has mainly been my old Shop 1 16.5" WWII, though on my last trip I went with my M43 instead.

Heber, 15", 1/2" spine and about 2lbs? Was yours made by Sher by chance? ;)

I would agree on the Pen (wonderful knife/tool) I also keep one in the saddle bag on my bike, but for a small knife I will take one of my folders such as my CRKT
