Hi fellow knife nuts. I was doing some cleaning and I came across a camp knife made by Eric Barnes. The first time I saw this knife was at the Spring Hammer IN at Old Warshington Arkansas. The best part for me is the cutting contest. Eric tied for 3rd. place with MS Jim Crowell. After the contest was over I purchesed for my collection. Also I wanted show off my Dennis Rilley's Musso Brass Back bowie, the other too are John Nellson Copper's bowies.

Please take some bigger, clearer pictures of the Barnes camp knife. I wanna see more of it. :)

oK GUY'S HERE ARE MORE PHOTO'S OF E. B. CAMPE KNIFE. i TRIED TO SHOW THE TEMPER LINE, I'M NOT ANY GOOD WITH PHOTOS.

Greetings from Ohio...
I have long had a desire for a camp knife, but never found just the right design, until I saw this thread...
This is what I have been looking for... Just the right curve, proportion, guard size etc. Beautiful work!
Could you please tell me about this knife, specs, etc.? I have written to Eric, as well as emailing you... which you may not have received.
If you are considering selling this, please let me know.

Thank you!

I hate to be the post police but:

infraction #1 - posting a knife pic and NO specs whatsoever;
infraction #2 - posting an upside-down pic that makes me dizzy. :p :p

Just yanking you chain. ;) That is a very cool knife. Big camp knives are my second favorite after big bowies and I like the look of this one a lot. Do tell us some more about it. I guess if he used it in competition then it is no more than 10" in blade length and 15" overall. But what about the blade steel and handle material and such-like?

Rogerp: Roger P: Sorry About The Spect"s, You Were Close But No Brass Ring For You. The Blade Is 14 1/4" Made Of 5160 Steel, The Over All Length Is 19 1/4" The Guard Is Nickel/silver, One Brass Pin And Lanyard Whole Lined With Brass. I'm Not Sure What Wood Is But Burley Maple I Think. The Requirments For The Knife Change At Each Hammer-in. Hope This Help.

14-plus inch blade? Yowza! I guess this wasn't an ABS-sanctioned cutting competition then. I just assumed it was because Crowell was competing. Or else he wasn't using THIS knife in the competition - that's probably where I got confused. Heck, it doesn't take much to cross my wires.

Roger: Yes It was an ABS sanctioned hammer-in. We have two a year at the Old Washihgon School near Hope Arkansas.

I believe that handle is a nice chunk of good ole Walnut. Looks great, whatever it is.

The current rules for ABS cutting competitions state that the blade can be no longer than 10" and the overall length can be no more than 15". This is for the competitions that count toward rankings for the ABS World Cutting Competition Finals at Blade each year which icludes the competitions held at the Spring and Fall hammer-ins at Old Wahington.

That's a fine looking knife and so is the Musso reproduction.

Keith: I stand corrected, if the rules were the same now as they were in 2001. That was my first Hammer-in. I though it was santion but if it was not, I sure had a good time.

David,
Do you have contact information for this maker? I have searched to no avail...
Thanks!
