Hi Everyone,I'm looking for a good Camp Knife(batoning, firewood collecting & a lot of chopping, stripping bark & some food prep).I've narrowed it down to BRK&T's Canadian Camp Knife & RAT's RC6.I like the different handle alternatives & ergos of Bark River, but I also like the Rat's thin blade & have no qualms about 1095.
I had a Ranger RD6 & it was way too heavy for my liking & sold it(and took a considerable loss :(...ahh live & learn:o)...BTW,It felt like I could cut a car in half with it:D...more than what I need.
I can't afford a Busse,so that's not even an alternative(though it would be my first pic if I could afford it)The Scrapyard has also caught my eye,but to be honest,I'd like something a bit more stylish(natural handle materials),full tang & not too heavy, with a leather sheath.I'm looking in the range of $200 or less, with a 6"+ blade, with weight & handle comfort being a deal breaker.
The Rat is a no-nonsense,not too fancy alternative, but I don't really like their sheaths.
I know there are die hard fans of both, but I ask you to put your loyalties aside temporarily & try & look at these choices from an "objective" POV.

I very much appreciate & respect your guys' opinions.I really take your guys suggestions to heart & they have influenced my purchases more than once.

BTW,I know I said I was definately going to get an Aurora in a previous thread, but I changed my mind.I still will most likely get that knife down the road, but right now I'm looking for the pros & cons of the RC6 & the CCK,regarding the uses posted above. Also I haven't held either.I'm basing the ergos of the CCK on other's posts.

Thanks for all your help in advance.:)

I woul'd pick the RC-6 and i will pick it.because i like flat grind and 1095 steel.i dont want a really thick blade.I dont want a rockwell scale over 58 i think 57 is the best for my use & its pretty easy to put a coarse edge on it & it's easy to put a polished edge too.

:thumbup:Thanks for the helpful input RUS1095.

I get the feeling from your name, that you are particularly partial to 1095;)

...nothing wrong with that:)

I am not partial to any one steel or maker. I have have had and used both, and while you would probably be happy with either, I would go with the BRK&T. While both are tough enough for camp duties, the BRK&T will out cut the RAT everytime.

All Right! That's the kind of opinions I'm looking for!:D:thumbup:

from people who have used both

RAT for me, I have yet to find a BRKT that feels good in hand, they have all been too slim and smooth in the handle.

SOG Gov-Tac..I luv it around camp. Hatchets work on wood better than knives.YMMV!

I already have a Kershaw hatchet.I'm looking to lighten my load by carrying a camp knife instead.

You can get one o' dem li'l Busses fer about two hun'red bucks, but I don't think that's what you're after. Paid $215 or so for my Cultellus...

If ya just wanna hack wood get a Rat-7 & go get 'em! Lol!!

It'll be used for more than that. Please read original post.

Thanks, but I'm mainly looking for opinions on the two spoken of in the original thread.

i think most of the rc rat's handles are slimmer but wider in profile so they fill the hand nicely. i've had no problems with their kydex sheaths...they do 'em good.

Gee, yer hard to please Bubba?

hahaha:D:D

With soo many knives & so many makers,I'd say one could be selective with one's choices.

I'm more than likely going with the Barkie.I just wanted to hear your opinions on both.

Thanks,
