Camp knife what do you think?

I was looking through my Field & Stream magazine yesterday and at the back where they have all the adds there is one for a holeb camp knife. The knife is rounded at the tip, serrated on the top side and appears to have a small portion on the tip for hammering stakes etc. It says made from 440 stainless but is not shiny. It is an odd looking knife but looks funtional for digging, chopping etc. So I was wondering if anybody has heard or used this knife? Any info would be great.

It looks like a boosted version of the MOD Survival knife http://www.888knivesrus.com/product/SH71680
and it feels like you could break it next to the handle.
If you compare it to a multitool like they do it naturally has more punch, but I would buy a khukuri instead.

I would place it in the same category as the 54 piece survival knives.

It cost the same as a Fallkniven F1 but I would choose the F1 anyday and I could probably do the same things that someone with that monster thing could do.

Personally, I would MUCH rather have a simple, inexpensive, short machete, preferably made in the USA. Most likely with a thin 12 inch carbon steel blade. And I don't mean some other "thing" that I've seen advertised as having a very thick stainless steel blade, but I can't remember the brand name on it at the moment. I use what works. Machetes work. They are proven tools, like others that have long histories.

Use a rock for hammering the stakes, and a knife for cutting. I use a Bark River Northstar as a general purpose camp knife. But after using a friend's Bark River Gameskeeper, I like it even better than my Northstar.

My nephew has an Ontario Rat 7 D2 which is awesome for a general purposae camping knife, and a little cheaper than the Bark Rivers. (Not nearly as pretty though!:D )

The bit on the tip for pounding stakes looks like it would be in the way for quite a few things, in addition to being a completely unnecessary feature.

I agree popedandy, the bit on the tip looks like it would prevent the splitting of wood like advertised. I kinda like the idea of this tool but am hesitant of dishing out that kinda of dough for something I've heard nothing about. Like Dr. Mudd said a machete may be the way to go. I have seen some decent ones at the army surplus store.

But still this knife looks interesting, plus the lifetime warranty is good. After looking close at the picture in the web-site I would assume the blade has a convex grind similiar to that of an ax or hatchet. And is 440 stainless a cheap brittle metal? Can it be sharpened easily? Plus I would not feel so bad beating the hell out of it because of the warranty. But I can't stop to think I can get an axe, hatchet or machete for probably 1/2 to 1/4 of the asking price which is like 80 dollars.

Looks ok, but i demand more than 440anything in my knives, if the price is right, and i needed shovel or stake hammer I'd get it, but as a knife i prefer 154cm and up as the blade steel, just my preference.
