I am going to a church camp next week and was wondering what slipjoint you all think I should take. Whatever slipjoint I chose will be paired with a M3 finn Case on my belt. The options #55 houndstooth in exotic mexican bocote wharncliffe version, #71 bullnose in green linen micarta, or #77 2014 Bladefourms Jack.

Hmm interesting replies. I was going for an eye catching title should have explained a little better. Its not really camping here is a link http://www.jennesspark.com/youth-camps/centrifuge-summer-camp more of a conference. Right now I have been carrying the #77 because of its sheer beauty and the fact that it cost an arm and a leg and took 6 months to find one. I am leaning towards taking the #71......

I think the best camp knife is a camp knife pattern. Doesn't matter which one: SAK SI, Case Boy Scout or Boeker Sportsman etc. Can opener, awl and screwdriver are really useful outdoor tools. And if you have additional fixed knife and hatchet that's all you need.

I would take the 71. Though, the 77 would be a great conversational piece to hook a few new people on traditional knives :D

Case Boy Scout, hatchet, (one of decent quality) and a hunting pattern sheath knife. (Avoid a cheap hunting knife, for heaven's sake).

I agree with Brett completely, the 71 would be superb to use camp wise but I love my bladeforums knife for the sheer fact that it looks amazing, has a great lineage of knives behind it and if someone asked..well you might hook a few new fish to the porch :D

71 hands down. I love micarta on a knife that I'm going to use camping. Just make sure to run some brightly colored cord through that lanyard hole. Green micarta does a great job of blending in if you drop it in a forest. ;)

The 71 is the best option of those mentioned... but... it sounds like it's time for a new knife Buckaroo.;) There are several more specialized tools that will better prepare you for what's ahead.:) Consider the accolades you'll receive from your fellow campers when you pull out a well preserved vintage Scout knife or the current model OH Trekker and whittle a sizable branch into a marshmallow stick all the while leaving a pile of tinder for the next 3 fires. Why you'll be the envy of your peers! By letting go of the nearly useless 2014 BF knife you can raise more than enough to outfit yourself in a fashion that will do you and the family proud. To simplify things for you, I'll help you out by taking the 77 off your hands. It's up to you but either way have an enjoyable outing!!!:)

SAK all the way. The Trekker has a lock blade but since you already have a belt knife something like the tinker or explorer would do. Just go to the vic website and choose then go to amazon to buy it or a local store if they carry it.

Of the choices you listed, the 71 Bullnose. I'd attach a colorful lanyard to it so you don't lose it. My real choice would a Victorinox SAK of some kind, Alox Pioneer or Farmer. Out camping, you sometimes need other things beside a blade, which is why the camp knife pattern includes other tools.

Im gonna go a different route and say take the Houndstooth. Your Case knife has belly, why do you need 2 knives with belly? The 55 will handle any small task you throw at it like opening packages and if you want to whittle around the fire it would be a great knife for that job. I am all about diversity and 2 different blade shapes makes you more versatile.

Interesting. When I hear the term "camp knife" I think of a fixed blade.

Here are some pictures of the worthy applicants

If it were me, I'd take the #71 and the fixed blade. That fixed blade looks like a Trout & Bird knife that would work out well around the camp for food prep etc. Any of them though would fill the bill for your camp.

Rough Rider "Camp Knife" or the Marbles rendition of the USA marked Army/Navy/Marines/Air Force "Demo"/utility knife (100% stainless steel, even the handle) or a SAK Farmer/Tinker/Super Tinker or Cadet or Recruit.

For fixed blade, anything with a 3.5 to 5 inch blade should suffice. I like the Buck 103, and the Condor Kephart and Nessmuk.
