Here's a camp knife I just finished up. 10.25" forged 5160, ss fittings, black canvas micarta handle, OAL 15.5". The point is pointier in person. Stayed tuned for two more jumbo sized knives ;). The giant block of wood in the background is osage orange I bought for hatchet handles ;).

~Excuse the oil on the guard joint.

If anyone would like some high res photos send me an email. My photos don't look so good after editing :).

Hey, no fair! All those scratches on the blade appear to be going the same direction! :D How come my handrubbed finishes never look like that?

Roger Massey is supposed to be making me a knife soon, and I swear the sketch he sent me is a dead ringer for this knife.

Beautiful knife, Matt. We're gonna have to have us a little talk soon; maybe in Little Rock. ;) :)

Thank you very much guys. Danbo, I'm not going to be able to get to Little Rock...again. I'm pretty disappointed, but there isn't much I can do about it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed about making it to Blade :(.

Here's a better shot of the finish.

Matt - Excellent piece - really crisp and clean, it looks every inch a camp bowie that you'd want with you.

Greg, I am planning on using it to dig my ass out of the snow. I think you'll need it more that I will though; we're only supposed to get 1', I heard you guys are supposed to get 1.5'. The winter is my favorite season, that's for sure :).

I think I have shovelled 6-8" as it is to keep the drive clear. It is still coming down.

I could use it to build myself a fire if I get stuck on the ling trek to work tonite.

Greg, I've used it to start three camp fires so far. I am thinking about using it start another one shortly. I don't know if I want to refinish it...again :). It's just barely starting to snow here. I've got my fingers crossed hoping for more than a foot.

You can't see it in the photo but the under side of the handle has a scotch bright finish. It was too slippery polished, it damn near slipped out of my hand...I was wearing a wool glove though ;).

I'll be making more of these, also in a medium size. I think I'm going to start taking a slightly different route with my handles...

I love the looks of the handle finish....but what u mentioned is why I almost always sandblast the micarta that I do...as well as add serrations/checkering.

Cold weather and big gloves also make me consider a large guard when making a knife. It is enlightening when your gloved hand can slip over the guard. I loved the earliest of the Randal 14's ....the tenite models....the guards tines were HUGE.

Great looking camp knife Matt! Super clean as usual! After seeing this I think my little utility hunter that I have of yours needs a companion soon.

Great job Matt and just a beautiful blade finish. You are progressing in leaps and bounds, very cool.

Thank you very much for the compliments guys.

I have a love/hate relationship with big knives. I think big knives are great and they're pretty rewarding to finish, but they're difficult to make. I think I'm getting to the point where the extra work is worth the effort ;).

I've got to do some shoveling :).
