I've been looking for a 6" - 7" fixed blade knife for camp chores. I have it narrowed down to an Ontario Rat7 D2, Becker BK7 or Ranger RD7. I really like the Rat7 for the D2 steel and the Ranger for the quality, but the price of the BK7 appeals to me. What I don't like about the Becker is the handles and the sheath looks kind of cheap.

Anyone have experience with any or all three? Opinions wanted. Thanks.

I would say the Ranger is the best out of those choices. However, there is the really cool option of modifying the becker. Although I've never done it many people have replaced those handles with micarta ect. Then get a spec ops sheath and you'd be all set.

Hopefully the RD7 will be 2x the knife the Becker is. I think I'll pick one up. Thanks.

Asked the same question myself a few weeks ago, got the RD7 - awesome knife. I would recommend the RD7 all the way. I was also interested in the Becker though, so i ended up getting a Becker Crewman for smaller chopping/cutting tasks. Ended up only spending $150 for the two knives, and I don't regret getting either.
