27oz of FUN!!!!!! Been working on this big ole Bowie this week! Most of it it went well but I was definitely on the struggle bus doing the fullers. They’re freehand ground and I was hoping for a higher degree of finish on them. I kept getting off my lines and ended up going backwards to a worn 36 grit belt to even things out. I followed up the 36grit with a heavy application of medium Scotchbrite belt and I’m a happy camper now. The scales are contoured black linen Micarta. The blade stock is 1/4in 5160. Overall it is 17 1/4in with a 12in blade.

Beautiful.

I know that I'd never be able to afford a 1-of-1 knife. However, if you ever decided to produce more, I'd gladly be in line to get one.

Wait just one danged minute!!!
Who's the boss of this outfit, you or your forearms?

Bill,

As always, your knife is a pleasure to hold. As you can see below, the design is consistent with early knife designs, if only a tad short. :) Thanks for keeping the tradition alive.

The little knife below it, is from the Southwest and a Mexican/Spanish style fighter made before the Bowie Knife, or the guy it was named after, existed. It likely dates to the 17-18th century, with a forged blade that tapers from 3/4" (just in front of the handle) to a fine point.

Big knives rule!!!!! Always have! Always will! 👍 I get such a kick out of pieces like this! Modern thinking would usually say “Too big”, but a lot of huge knives existed historically especially in cultures where dueling and vengeance were important. Thank you for sharing the comparison pic N2S!!! That is a VERY cool blade to be shown alongside of.
