Just a little over 3 weeks from the time I ordered on the 3rd of October.
My first impressions:
When I unwrapped the Camp Tramp I thought, "My Gawd but this ain't no Wimpy Knife!!!!
And it is not!!!!
The Camp Tramp is about 3/8" wider than my Busse Basic #9 and is only 2&1/16" shorter!
I like the small changes in the grip. It's about 1/16" or so longer than the #9 and has the slightly rippled/speckeled finish and is sterile unlike my Basic.
There wasn't anything wrong with the Basic's handle finish, but this makes it appear more professional IMO.
The only downside to it is that it wasn't shaving sharp right outta the box for some reason,
but I will have that fixed up shortly, however the penetrating point is very pointy and I like that.
I did pretty much the same thing to my E-Battle Mistress so I wouldn't have to take a hammer to stab it into something.
I can understand a knife getting through without being perfectly sharp for a business that's just starting to get rolling as is SRKWs.
A little further down the line it would be inexcusable IMO as I believe a knife should be usable right outta the box.
I'm sure it was just overlooked, it's not that big a deal to me, but I could see it being a problem for some of the sharpening challenged.
There is a burr all along one side and it isn't easily removed with a jeweler's rouge strop so I will put it on my Grizzly buffer and take care of that.
The fact that the burr isn't easily removed tells me it's gotta be some tuff steel.
An interesting side note maybe to some is that the Camp Tramp fits right in my Basic 9's kydex scabbard!!!! Yes, the scabbard is a little long for it, but it wouldn't matter if you were needing a hard safe scabbard for something like a float trip or a slightly extended stay in some wet and nasty climates.
I got my Basic 9 from 1SKS when they first came out with the really nice kydex if you're wondering about that.
On to the Bandicoot:
WOWSA is the best word I have right now to describe it!!!!
The Little Cooter Did Come Shaving Sharp right outta the box which is very encouraging to me.
The handles of course are all the same so no use in mentioning that any further.
I love the leather sheath, said before I forget it as it's sure dayumed nice enough to be mentioned and a nice change from the tactical black that's been long overworked IMO.
Mine comes in at about 5 1/2 ounces so the weight is negligable to begin with, but with the beautiful balance it disappears in my hand.
Very Well thought out design!!!!
The Bandicoot would make an excellent little boot knife or as a backup for LEO's and Military IMO.
So that's my first impressions from right outta the box so to speak.
As time goes forward and I get to use them a little I will let y'all know how they work.
I don't get out like I used to due to health concerns so it may be a while.
I bought the Camp Tramp with the idea of making it a concealed daily carry. About the only place I have to carry it would be tip up and under my left arm so I may need a safe scabbard to be able to wear it there without sweat and deoadorant doing a number on the scabbard as well as the knife.
I'm short at 5' 8" and heavily built at 265 pounds so that limits the places where I can conceal a knife this size and have it readily accessible.
Any suggestions as to whom to talk to about making me a scabbard should I really make up my mind to carry it there?
