I'm interested in getting a camp tramp, i have a RAT-7 in 1095 which i like alot but i think i might want to switch it up. can anyone give me their opinion of the CT. thanks

Depending on what your parameters are, I'd suggest getting a Battle Rat, since they don't seem to be too much more in price these days.

I don't mean to slight the CT at all, though. It may be the perfect size blade for some people or some situations, and you certainly won't go "wrong" getting one.

I have both and the BR is the one I always reach for. It's only 2 more inches of blade, so the difference in size isn't cumbersome. At the same time, that extra 2" puts the balance point far enough out front that it becomes a much better chopper. Also, weight-wise, they are similar enough that it's pretty much a non-issue.

Just my opinion, but I love my BR, can you tell? ;)

Good luck!! :D

thanks a lot Will and Greg, any one else have experience with the Camp Tramp, or BR

The RAT 7 is a great knife and I used mine hard for a good year. Then I did what you want to do, I upgraded to a camp tramp. The camp tramp is an awsome knife and has a lot more strength and chopping power than the RAT while maintaining the compactness and versitility of this size blade. You will love it.

The question is what are your plans with it? Are you looking for a good camp knife...Camp Tramp....you plan on chopping Battle Rat...may also want to look to the Scrap Yard for their new Chopper.

Camp Tramp is a very versitile knife and great all around! Can't go wrong with it!

I'll need the knife to be very versitile, mainly a camp shelter building knife, so chopping will be in good order, but i'd like to stay around the RAT-7 size.

Best all around fixed-blade knife I own. Great versatile size, exactly in the middle of what you would need- large or small. Heavy duty without being too heavy to carry. Virtually indestructable.

Great knife !!!!

I just got my first CT recently and I am amazed how much I love this knife.

Get one and you will understand what all the gushing over the Camp Tramp is all about.

Like Dr. Bill said, be prepared to pay over 2 bills for it unless you find someone that doesn't know what they have !

I am sure the replies you are going to get are going to vary greatly on personal preference. While I agree with some of the observations regarding the Battle Rat, for me personally, the Camp Tramp is about the largest knife that I am willing to have on my belt ALL the time. And we all know that the best knife is the one that you have with you when you need it.

If I am going to be camping close to a vehicle, or if I am going to carry it on a backpack, then the extra size/weight is a non-issue. But, if we are talking about actually having it on the belt, the CT is the max size for me.

I will not pretend to have a lot of experience with the CT. I just got my first one, in fact. My first SRKW knife was an M6. I sharpened it up, and have played with it quite a bit, and have been very impressed with the steel, and the performance. So much so, that I wanted a bigger one. I bought a CT in the aftermarket. Since I already knew I like the steel, the rest was design, and ergonomics. I liked it so much that I went ahead an bought a 2nd one as well.

My favorite story about the CT is the guy who rolled over his Jeep, and used the CT to get out. Here is the link. There are plenty of good stories about the CT.

I find the M6 to be way to much blade for my belt. I much prefer simply strapping it on my pack for a knife that size or bigger.
I may fool around with a baldric to carry my Dogfather.

The BR seems like a great deal at the price they are going for. If I was not anxiously awaiting my DF I would be looking.

Consider going bigger like a BR or DF or smaller and get an M6. My M6 is my first of hopefully many rats and I think it will make a good camp knife but you will have to baton rather than chop.

have you put a thread in the 'want to buy' section? try that, most members are looking there now.

you will probably have to buy a membership first.

The CT is a great knife. It's just about the right size for me for a camp knife. The steel takes a great edge, and is easy to bring back to razor sharpness. The only complaint that I have is the large choil, I wish it were a little smaller, although if you have gloves on (or large hands), you might disagree. All in all, a great knife!

You know all those IF YOU COULD HAVE ONLY ONE KNIFE threads? This would be one knife I would be very, very comfortable with, all by itself.

If you find a Camp tramp at a reasonable price, get it! It is one hell of a knife which has been said about a million times so I'm gonna save my breath.
