I am researching the Camp Tramp model as a possible future purchase, but I had a few questions, and clarifications. Most of them Eric could probably answer, but I am posting here hoping others would chime in with their experience and thoughts.
My first question is does this knife come with a sheath as part of the sale price or does that have to be purchased separately? I notice on the website that for the tan CT it states " sheath shown not included in standard retail version", but there is also a statement on the Sheath Options page that says that "Swamp Rat Battle Rat and Camp Tramp currently come with Kydex lined Cordura sheaths". There is no mention of a sheath being not included for the black blade CT.
If it does come with a sheath, does the sheath color match the blade color, or is it possible to mix them up, say get a black sheath with a tan blade?
If it does not come with a sheath, what is the sale price on the sheath (black or tan)?
Also, could someone post or email me a photo of the back of kydex lined cordura sheath for the CT?
Can you tell me more about the blade coating. Is it an epoxy or a Teflon (ie; how hard is it to remove, if I wanted to) based coating? I have removed blade coatings before, both epoxy (with paint remover) and Teflon (with a wire-brush wheel), but could not determine what kind of coating Swamp Rat uses.
And what kind of finish would I see with the coating removed? Is it a kind of course satin finish (say 120 or 220 grit) or does it show a lot of heavy grind marks? Those of you who have removed your finish could probably help with this question. If I do end up removing the finish, I would like it bring it to a basic field grade satin finish, but want to know how much work it will be.
Also, would any of those folks who have removed their coating be willing to post or email me some photos of the blade finish under the coating?
I had a question on the handle. For those who have used this knife a bit in the field, how does the tan handle show dirt? I like the look of the tan CT more than the black one, but my hands usually get dirty with pitch and just dirt, and I wonder how dirty the handle will get after use, how the tan might show the dirt more, and how hard it is to clean the handle of dirt/pitch. Is alcohol and other cleaners ok on the Resiprene C, or would you recommend something different?
So far, although I have not used any yet, I can say that I am very impressed with what I read about Swamp Rat knives and their products. I have used and carried many Buck and Cold Steel products over the years (hope I don't open a can of worms with that...), due to their durability and price, but am planning to try out some of Swamp Rat's products due to what appears to be superior durability at a working person's price, and an unbeatable guarantee.
The work I do (and my philosophy) requires durable, well made equipment at reasonable prices, and I think that the Camp Tramp might be a good choice.
All your help will help me make my decision.
Thanks you,
