So today my buddy and i were on our way to go fishing at a local spot we had luck at last week. A few storms have rolled through connecticut lately and the second to last storm we had blew a pretty big tree directly across two of the main paths that lead to a few spots along the river. So instead of going off the path through the muck and prickers i had my camper on me. Took the saw out and de-limbed the tree, then made a cut around the circumfrence of the larger branches to and snapped them off to clear a path. If i hadn't had my camper on me, it would have been a pain! I also had my spyderco salt I on me, but it wasn't much help haha. Just figured i'd share. I love victorinox saws, it made short work of the green wood.

That's why I like the Camper model  The saw, even though small, can give you an extra peace of mind outdoors.

I carry the Hiker everyday. Its the same as the Camper except it has a screwdriver in place of the corkscrew.

Used the awl on my Wenger Camper to depress the release catch for the head rest in my bosses car after he broke the catch

The camper looks like a minimalist SAK with a saw - it has all the basic tools + saw. I have the camper on steroids => the Ranger. The Ranger adds a file & scissors on the front and a chisel, hook & small screwdriver on the back. To my hands the Ranger still doesn't feel overly bulky, but it sure is useful for so many tasks.

I don't know if I'd want to use a SAK saw on a regular basis, I don't know how well it would stay sharp and saw well if it was used all the time. But if you find yourself caught short and needing to cut some wood (like in the OP) then it sure is a handy tool to have. I have a machete and a folding saw, but I don't carry those on me every day, that is the brilliance of the SAK & MT - they give you tools that you might otherwise not have available. Your chainsaw might in theory be quicker at cutting wood, but in practise the chainsaw back at home isn't as useful as the SAK in your pocket!

The saw on the Victorinox knives is excellent. I use the one on my Farmer a lot when I go camping, to cut wood for the camp fire.
