Well, I got my new Boss Jack on Thursday and left for a camping trip to Roush Lake that evening. Huge thank you to Liu Kang's lightning fast service and shipping that made it possible to get it in time to take it!

I bought this knife to use the heck out of it, and it did not dissappoint! I used it for batoning, light chopping, carving, striping bark and even for a little throwing fun.

I know this knife isn't one of the "big" or "beafy" BUSSE's, but compared to anything but another BUSSE this thing is a BEAST! I don't really know if it's even possible to do any real damage to these knives...of course, my brother's (being who they are) had to begin referring to it as "Le BUSSE΄"...

Anyway, for you that are more experienced with INFI steel, I have a couple of questions for you to get this knife ready for my next adventure:
  • What is the recommended method of cleaning this blade (taking off tree sap, etc.)?
  • You will see in one of the pics below I have a slight edge roll on a small portion of the blade near the tip. What is the recommended method of sharpening/fixing this by me - a novice sharpener?

Now for a few pics to share the fun!

First - a few "MINT" shots (the before..)

And the "after" shots...no safe queen here!

Here's a picture of the slightly rolled edge near the top of the blade. I think all needs is a good sharpening to straighten it back out. Probably happened while we were throwing it..

Thanks for all the advice that led me to get this awesome knife!!

I just use really hot water and Dawn on a washcloth to clean off the crap... just make sure to rinse it really well then wipe it dry. The heat from the hot water will make it dry fast.

For pine/evergreen tree sap, try WD40. For hardwoods, soap and water should do it, or something like glass cleaner, Formula 409.

To straighten out the edge roll, use a piece of smooth hard steel, like a screwdriver shaft, to push the metal back in line before you sharpen it.

+1

On satin blades, hot water takes care of most crud.

Good to see a user, and after looking and thinking about it, the Boss Jack would make a great thrower. How'd it work for you?

cool knife, thanks for the pics.
looks like a really usable - versatile blade.
have U used it for some finer tasks, also?

Like most of the others, I love to see someone use the knives. Safe queens are pretty but taking them out to get a little dirt on em is more fun...............

I'm glad you found one that you like. Good to see you made good use of it. Welcome to the addiction.

Thanks for the advice! The dish soap and hot water worked like a charm to get the crap off.

Regarding sharpening the knife, what do you recommend? I used my kitchen knife set sharpening steel to try to put a good edge back on it, but I wasn't too successful. I don't know if it is because I'm using this kind of steel, or if it is the convex blade. I like the look of the convex blade, but I wonder if it will be harder to put a good edge on it.

Thoughts? Any tips or a good sharpening system I should purchase for this knife?

Thanks again!

Kool pics thanks for sharing and congrats. How does that Bj throw?

Unfortunately I suck at knife throwing, so it's hard to tell. I actually didn't have much luck throwing it at the tree from any distance. It was fun throwing it at the stump in the ground that was cut at ground level. It was easy getting it to stick in that because skill is not as much of an issue...

Nice BJ, but the more I see the Black SAR3s the more I want one.

Absolutely - to me, the SAR-3 is a "must-have" BUSSE. For such a compact blade, the handle feels incredibly comfortable and secure. Although I also got one inspected by #11, and it has to go back for a proper sharpening.
