Hi, for the fellow Canadians on this board...

I'm planning a camping trip around Vancouver, BC, for this summer. I'm a big knife aficionado and I plan on bringing a few. I'd like to know which are illegal to carry, which can't be concealed, etc, etc. Basically, which of these knives could get themselves confiscated by a park ranger in a lousy mood?

1. 12" fixed blade with 7" blade
2. kukri with 12" blade
3. assorted linerlock knives with 3-4" blades

Thanks!

As far as I know, those should all be okay.
As long as they're tools, they can be concealed, and in the park they should all count as tools.
Although I wouldn't bother concealing them; it's usually more uncomfortable to carry concealed anyway.
Go enjoy the outdoors.

Uh...none, I think. Don't carry the big ones on you when in town (duh!). That pretty much sums it up :)

I took it to mean he was going camp in parks surrounding the city, not camp in the city.
That would be a different(and weird) story.

The only restrictions that I'm aware of are no automatic or butterfly knives and no "trench" knives (brass knuckle with a blade). As a previous poster said, you can not carry a weapon or a knife for protection; they are all tools to cut rope, branches, etc.

This is perhaps the most important.
If you get asked by parks officials, or police officers, you should be
saying that they are tools
, and be prepared to describe how or what you
use them for, although that's pretty self explanatory.
Never, never say that they are for self defense or protection.

Of course, that is, providing you get asked, which you probably won't.

At the border, if they ask you if you have any weapons, they'll be referring
to guns and rifles etc...

That might be pushing it if you're at a campsite in an quasi-urban park. To the average park ranger, there's little difference between "aficionado" and "bozo intent on chopping down our live trees". I would leave that out of any place that requires you to pack in your own fire wood. The 7" you can probably just say is for food prep and be alright.
