Alright guys I need help. The wife finally wants to give camping a try, but there are stipulations. We live in New York, fairly close to New Jersey. One of her friends told her there are places in Jersey where you can camp right on the beach. My research has come up with nothing. Anyone from New Jersey can give me a hand? Or does anyone know of a good website covering camping across the country? If this had to do with the Adirondacks I would not have a problem :) . Any help is greatly appreciated.

BC,
The only area I could come up with was Wharton State Forest, down by Philadelphia- it has campsites on the major rivers in the Forest, and offers canoeing and kayaking. Try Gorp.Com, which has an extensive database on camping in the U.S.

Camping in the sand?
Not for me!

Little Pond Campground is very nice. Roughly 2-2 1/2 hours from NYC off route 17.
They should be listed in the website above.
Hiking, fishing, swimming, showers and even lakeside campsites.

Worthington State park is beautiful, it's at the NW section of NJ along the Delaware River bordering PA...

It's so nice that you need to reserve campsites well in advance especially those on the little islands in the middle of the river.

Yeah LH, right between those 2 apartment houses!

Just a note, the campsite I mentioned is in NY. I stay in state to avoid having to buy another fishing license.
For me, camping without fishing is like soup with no spoon.

I belive Ron of Hoods woods fame use to camp in the Pines alot maybe email him for some advice or get a couple of his vid , they are great. :D

High point state park and stokes state forrest both have lakes close enough to where you camp to walk to. They are both in Sussex county right near Port Jervis NY. Then you have high point monument which you can see PA NY and NJ from. Sunrise Mt. is another nice place to take pic's from and it is located in Stokes State forrest. That help? :D

I have never been there, but the Pine Barrens right there in NJ is supposed to be pretty big and have camping facilities...

There are lots of camping facilities in NJ. Unfortunately, I don't know of any legitimate places on the beach.

When camping, watch out for the Jersey Devil, Sasquatch, moose, and killer black bears. Black bears are becoming a serious problem. One recently killed a horse. People are frequently chewed on.

The Pine Barrens are nice as are parts of NW NJ. There are many spots along the Appalachian Trail.

If you must camp on the beach, try Sandy Hook. A lot of surf fishermen do so at night. You will need a fishing pole when the Ranger comes around.

Don't try camping on the nudist beach at Sandy Hook.
