One of my favorite things about living here in Moab is the variety of outdoors experiences that are right at your fingertips. This year has been abnormally cool up until recently, and as luck would have it, I got to get up in the mountains just as it was going to break 100 degrees
I had a chance to do a quick overnighter with a buddy and I jumped on it! We went up to Hidden Lake in the LaSal Mountains and set up a quick camp, did some fishing, and I got in a quick hike in the morning before we had to be back in town.
A quick shot overlooking Fisher Towers on the way up
The two knives I used setting up camp- a Sog Super Bowie, and a Siegle 'Rambo IV' inspired chopper. Both performed admirably-the Siegle handled all the Chopping and splitting for the night's fire. I was going to bring my axe, but heck, who needs it with a knife like this!
I was also impressed with the Sog. The finger grooves were spaced far too narrow for me, so I widened the first an last so it was comfortable. It's balance well enough that I was able to clean the days catch (just a couple of lil' rainbows) very easily, especially for a knife that size. I also did a little chopping and battoning with it-and it handled everything I threw at it with ease.
A quick pic of the three that accompanied me on my morning hike
Here's a couple of pics of the lake we camped at
