I haven't posted here in awhile, but I do use those H.I. Khukuris.
Here is my 15" AK. Used it to make kindling for my fires.

Nice picture Greg.

I took my 15” AK out for a workout today too. I went for a hike through an area that was logged years ago, and decided to gather pitchwood while hiking. After the tree is cut sap continues to rise, saturating the wood of the stump. Years later when the stump is rotten the solid pitch-soaked wood can still be found inside. The pitchwood is great for starting fires.

I chose the AK over my other khukuris because I wanted something strong and short enough to carry in my coat. Gathering the pitchwood involves chopping away the rotten part of the stump, then chopping into the solid pitchwood and prying it out. The pitchwood is very strong. I actually got the AK blade to flex considerably. I was worried that maybe it would bend at the blade-tang junction, but each time as the pressure was relieved the blade came back to perfect alignment. What a knife!

Greg, you didn't chop down that tree with your AK, did you? But I bet it's possible to do that

You are right Bill; it took 3 blows for that tree. Damn thing was in the way of my fire.

Just kidding, it was cut with a chainsaw. I then rolled it in front of the fire. That is where I sit when I spit Yukon Jack on the fire and also drink some too.

See you on the trail
