ive checked out all of the threads and there isnt much info on either of these two. i want a nice camping-survival knife that isnt too big or overkill. im not interested in chopping, or skinning. i think that i would prefer the ubejane, but i have heard nothing but good things here about the sable iv. any opinions or input would be appreciated.

I like the Ubejane. It is a skinning knife really but it does anything you through at it! It has a strong tip and a heavy/wide blade is really versatle.

I'd go with the Sable. Longer blade (by an inch) longer handle. The handle on the smaller knives is pretty small, and I have found it uncomfortable handling the Shadow III and the Mountaineer I.

Look also at the sheaths, if I am not mistaken, the Ubejane has the strap and pin method, whereas the Sable has the pouch sheath.

I believe Sable has the highest blade grind of all the models, it would be excellent choice.

Check out the Shadow series has a spearpoint. The Shadow IV has the large handle but the blade is only 5". Another option is the Shadow II, smaller overall length and handle, very compact in comparison to the Sable and Project series. The IV gives you an 'in between' option. Also consider a kydex sheath.
