I always bring and axe camping for wood processing, but decided to do some batoning with my Clipper anyway. Not sure why some people say you can't baton with a mora becuase it isn't full tang. I did 5 pieces this was a smaller one but some of them were pretty thick. I feel in an emergency I could definatly rely on the Mora Clipper if needed.

Three little girls in a tent... I hope you spaced out the tents for sufficient giggle volume reduction!

there tent was about 20 feet away, but I was up later than everyone else. It was a long eventful day and they crashed at about 11:30.

That's a great time with your family for sure  I am a recent Clipper convert as well, nice to see you using it for some rough work.

Thanks for sharing. As far as the Mora is concerned, I've done a lot of batoning with them and have yet to have one fail me.

It was a great day (and night) out in the woods. Took the girls fishing and best of all started teaching them some basic skills.

I found an old pine stump not far from camp and showed the girls how to indentify good wood to make tender and chop some pieces off, even had each one take a couple of swingfs with the hatchet.

took them back to camp and showed them how to shave off some feather pieces to help start the fire and gave each of them a turn with a small stick and the mora (excpt my daughter who I will get to in a minute).

Then showed them how baton the hatchet to get it through some logs easier and gave them a turn. They had a tough time trying to beat the hatchet thrugh just because they still can't swing very hard.

I showed them how to build a nest out of dried leaves their wood shavings and showed them the firestraws I keep in my hip pack and explained that the cotton covered in vaseline fires up easy.

Last I showed them each how to shave magnesium and strike sparks off a firesteel (I used a mag block with a small rod on top the $6 kind you get from walmart) I have a small piece of hacksaw attached that I use to shave the mag and as a striker. Had each girl shave some off and throw some sparks.

I gave my daughter her first knife earlier in the day (vic classic) and reinterated the basic rules. I had went over all this several times in the last few weeks as I showed her how to carve a featherstick and such using my knife. So when the other two girls took turns usng my knife to shave a stick my daughter used her little vic classic (it came razor sharp).

After all this I had the nest of leaves, shavings, and cotton ball in the fire pit and I let my daughter shave off the magnessium (she had done this at home before, but failed to get the proper spark to actually start the fire).

I let her attempt to start it and this time it was a success. My daughters first fire using a firesteel, she was very proud of herself.
