I am looking for a camping thermometer for a friend of mine, one that goes below -20 degrees F, which seems to be the cut off point for thermometers. I have one I bought at EMS in Boston, about 40 years ago, black imitation leather square with a rivet in one corner, which secures the thermometer. It pivots out and goes down to -50 degrees F. I have unfortunately been in the field when it was somewhere below the -40 F/C mark, in Vermont of all places. I looked for a maker name but all it says is "West Germany". Does anyone have knowledge of a camping thermometer that goes below minus 20 degrees F? Thank. John

Check Taylor Instruments. I had one I used camping and it screwed into a metal case that looked like a tire gauge. It was sturdy and darn near indestructible when cased.
