Thanks :]

All I see for this price would be one of the small knives from Himalayan Imports.

You should email Yangdu to see what is available.

For example (far right):

8 inch 5 ounce JKM-1 by new Kami Rajendra Kami. Sisau wood handle. Sharp pointy blade at $40 YBB.

What kind of camping? What kind of chores?

Without more detail, if you want a big camp knife that will chop and pry as well as cut, I'd go for one of the Ontario Military issue knives. I've seen them go for the mid $30's on ebay. (These aren't my style, but a lot of folks seem to assume camping means conquering the wilderness. If conqureror you be, this knife should work for a tight budget.)

If you want a quite serviceable fixed blade for camping, I'd grab a Mora. They don't cost much, will do most cutting chores except chopping and pyring ones. Ragnar's Ragweed forge carries a fair selection. Recommended.

I second the suggestion of Moras. IMO they can't be beat in their price range. They aren't full tang, but if you use them as knives and not prybars they will not fail you. There are a lot of good options for Moras, I recommend the #510.

For $40 you could get three different sizes of Moras plus shipping, or a good medium-sized Mora plus a machete. Then you would have a good cutting tool and an effective chopper. That would be tough to beat for general camping use.

Once the sickness has really set in and you are ready to sink a lot more money into cutlery, come back and ask again, we're more than happy to be enablers.

get 2 knives,
1. A 4 inch mora for bushcraft-$13
2. A cold steel bushman bowie to beat the crap out of-$22

Buy this knife for Less that $30 shipped.

I'll second the Buck 119 suggestion. Go to Wally World - $33.84, including a nylon sheath. Academy had the leather sheath version for $37.84 earlier. Great 6" knife in the classical almost Bowie-style. Fine hollowground edge for detail work (... with a 6" blade!). Blade material: Paul Bos heat treated 420HC. Easily re-sharpened, although it won't need it soon. Comes quite sharp - a true American made bargain. If you see some of the 'Survivorman' episodes where Les Stroud carries a knife and his always-there multi-tool, it's a Buck 119. The finger guard and pommel are polished aluminum, the handle is phenolic. There is a 'dress-up' version, 119BR, with brass fg & pommel and rosewood handle, for ~$70+ mail order... too pretty to use. I have both - the basic one is my favorite kitchen knife! The BR is, well, art!
