Got out for a few days with the family and put the 5.1 to work.
I'll add some pictures to the gear thread, but I highly recommend the firebox stove.
Took a long hike down to a river where the kids and I could swim and ran into this guy
If you're wondering how I got him to pose so well it's because I'm a trained snake charmer,,,,, OK it's actually because he was already dead, he must've gotten trapped by a rock but he looked about as close to being alive as I've ever seen.
Back at camp and the 5.1 got put to use helping to make some tinfoil dinners.
Then that evening making marshmallow sticks and then cutting open bags of Marshmallows, graham crackers, and chocolate,, most people know this is REAL hard use testing.
I wanted to get some wood cut for the firebox stove so all I had to do in the morning for coffee is light the fire.
I can't say enough about how great the firebox stove is. Just the wood that you see in that picture was enough to boil water for coffee, cook my bacon, and then boil even more water to clean out the pot.
I used cotton balls rubbed with petroleum jelly as the starter, just one of those popped in the center of the firebox and that thing was roaring within a minute.
Back home I got the blades all cleaned up and oiled.
Another product I highly recommend is this folding Lansky sharpener. I hold the knife blade up and come at the bevel almost like a wicked edge, five or 10 strokes on each side and each knife was brought back to shaving sharp within a few minutes.
I can't say enough about how much I love the 5.1, the ergonomics the geometry and the quality of the heat treat are just fantastic. My next two will definitely be the 3.5 and the GSO 8.
Cheers Survivors, now let's get out there and use your knives, that's what they're for!
