Went backpacking with some fellow old-timers up on the Mogollon Rim and had a chance to try out my "new" knives, especially the ESEE 4. Great weather and a great place that only required a 2 mile hike in. Here we are pulling into the parking lot. NOT! Looks like a bus full of prisoners or someone with lots of $ wanting to "taste the great outdoors."

Here we are hiking in. Temps in the low 70's.

A nice picture of the stream. Beautiful little thing.

My 3 "new" knives: a refurbished PAL 36 knife, a vintage KABAR and my new ESEE 4.

The ESEE 4 looking good. I've used quite a few knives in my day but this thing is my favorite. Didn't use the old timers the rest of the trip. What a knife! Tough as nails.

Batoning with the ESEE. No problem!

Chili from a can with some added wonderful things.

Greg standing by his house he built for wayward old-timers. We'll tear it down when we go back in a few weeks. He asked us not to this trip.

Pulling down a half-fallen tree that posed a threat to folks in the area. I supervised.

Always leave a clean camp!!!

And so concludes another successful old-timers gathering. Looking forward to the next one!! Hopefully I'll have my 2 new knives from Brian Breeden by then.

Great stuff buddy. I have to ask what the added wonderful things were in the Chili ?

The added wonderful things were sliced onions, diced cooked brats, the rest of the picante sauce and one baked potato we'd just pulled from the fire. Reminds me of backpacking in highschool when dinner was potatoes, a can of beans and some fresh rainbow or brook trout. Always threw the bull trout back.

Beautiful country out there. That looks like a nice trip! That bus is pushing that 20 ton weight limit.

Thanks for sharing. It really is a nice looking spot you had there. But does it get frequented bus bus loads of prisoners?:)

Some awesome pics, thanks for sharing. Nice seeing the old Pals and Ka-Bar, but I agree the ESEE-4 is one of my favorite knives and one of the best all around knives I own.

Thanks for the pics. I wish everyone would leave a campsite clean. Everywhere you go around here there are empty bottles/cans and plastic laying around. I do my best to keep the areas clean, but it just gets worse and worse.

The ESEE4 is a great blade, one of my favorites.

Really true about leaving a clean camp. We try to pack out at least some of the junk that we find.
