I made a kephart with a Micarta handle. The handle doesn’t look too thick to me but it just feels heavy in the hand. Here are a couple of short video clips of it. Would this be a useful knife or is it just too heavy?

It weighs 6 ounces.

If it’s too heavy I can always file more material off of it.

Thank you for your opinions and have a good day.

Are you doing anything to your tangs to lighten them prior to putting the handles on?

Weight is subjective when it comes to a small knife. I suppose it could be lighter as it's not like you're going to clear trails with it. However, on the belt 6oz is nothing. That would make for a stout-ish knife that would be a bit more robust than a comparable folder if you wanted to dig into something.

For me, it's about how it balances in the hand.

Beautiful knife. 6oz is no problem at all - an oz less than a Buck 110, for instance. The only thing that might bug my OCD as a user is that the center point could be closer to the ricasso. But I'd use it for sure. Hope that helps.

I'm no expert, but I was lucky to be one of the earlier recipients of the Becker 62.
Really liked it. But I wish the handle was thicker.
My idea was to make brass liners.
It looks Amazing.
As a side effect, it became very handle Heavy.
At first I was worried, but it keeps it in your hand. I realized I like that extra handle weight in that style of working knife

You can make it thinner by turning it to full flat grind and thus to be more kephart style, but I've heard the guy never did batoning. The blade is not very long to start flixing, I think? It is a beatiful knife now though.
