The answer is "yes" they can. I'm talking about my new Buck Pilot model 199 BKX. I had been wanting one of these beauties for a while now but was hesitant because of the Chinese manufacture of this model. But, by accident I purchase a Buck 373 three blade pocket knife and have been very impressed with its quality. So I decided to give the Pilot a try. Well, if you have been wanting one but were hesitant like me, don't wait any longer. I've had the knife for about a week now and have put it through a few paces around the house and it has passed with "flying" colors! LOL! Came razor sharp from the factory, has excellent factory edge angles, slices well, whittles great, excellent fit & finish, excellent frame lock engagement & strength, and holdes its edge like all other Bucks I've owned, fantistic! While I don't like to buy any knives not made in the USA if I can help it, these China made Bucks have really impressed me! And the price is outstanding for the quality of knife you will receive! So, in conclusion, the answer is a big "YES" this Buck has earned its "Pilots" license!,,,VWB.

If Im thinking correctly:yawn:The pilot is a larger version of the mantis,if so I agree, great knife for little money sharp tough and well made:thumbup:

I've had both, they are great knives. I ended up giving them to friends, only because the pocket clips are not reversible for south-paws, but quality was tops!

I know you guys have your own little clique, with the secret handshake and password, but it would be really, REALLY nice if you could post a link/pic to your subject, and also indicate any pertinent details, like primary blade length, length closed, scale material, etc... :)

This could be of benefit to you. Someone like me could have a bushel basket of these critters and be willing to unload them cheap...
