Can a minor carry a knife in California, not in school. Do they just follow the same laws for Adults???

California makes no distinction between minor or adult, but certain cities have other codes. Also, we can't conceal fixed blades here, which really sucks.

Does LA stop minors or limit them??

Only restricts sale or gifts of knives to minors:

Carry laws are the same regardless of your age. In fact, when it comes to carry laws in general, age restrictions are extremely rare across the United States. Most states do not even prohibit sale of knives to minors, but rather stores just set policy to keep themselves from being sued.

Make sure you know all the local ordinances. I've read them exstensively and have come to the conclusion that the state laws aren't too bad, but almost every city (and county) has their own ridiculous ordinances. To be on the safe side, especially in SoCal or Bay Area, carry under 3". A lot of the local ordinances list anything 3" or more as a deadly weapon. That combined with the laws against carrying a deadly weapon can be your ticket to jail. Further, LA has another ordinance which prohibits open carry, effectively meaning that fixed blade carry is outlawed. On the other hand, I know several people who have been stopped and the police asked if they had knive and gave them back, even though they were nearly 4" blades. It's a risk though. Knife laws in CA suck, and I don't see them changing anytime soon. It would be great to have a pre emption law.

Good advice, regardless of state. Also, "minors" should dress appropriately and avoid gang-type attire. If there are two "minors" on the street, one dressed conservatively with a decent haircut and clean clothes while the other has long, unkempt hair and is dressed like a punk, guess who LEO attention will focus on? When carrying, regardless of whether one is a minor or adult, keeping a low profile is important.

Ok Thanks Guys.
I know the city I live in restricts to 3" and my parents dont like me to have over than even if I can legally.

Do you think just Jeans or Cargos and a T-shirt is ok??

Sure. Make sure the jeans and T-shirt are clean and fit well, nothing really baggy or sagging down so that your underwear is exposed. If going cargo, avoid camouflage or tactical-type clothing. You don't want to look like a mall ninja. Keep your shirt tucked in. Wear a belt. Keep folder concealed in front trouser pocket. A nice conservative haircut is also something that you may consider. Remember, the key is to blend in with your surroundings and not draw LEO attention.

Is there anything different I should know about Southlake tahoe/el dorado?

CA knife laws aren't too horrible, but the local laws make everything a giant mess. To find out your local laws, Google search your county and city names with 'municipal code'. When those come up, they usually have a search box where you can type in 'knives' or something similar. The weapons laws are usually in the 'public peace, safety, morals' section. Also, keep in mind that some places will have a law against carrying a concealed weapon and then say that a knife with a blade 3" or longer constitutes a weapon.

I hate these laws. :barf:

Good luck!
