Can a plain Strider be Tiger Striped?

I know the TS process occurs by blasting the knife after it is heat treated. But, can it be done to a knife that was not originally striped? or can the style of stripe be changed (i.e. stripped and restriped)?

If not, how is a TS knife refinished if it is returned to Strider for a rework?

Thanks!

"the tiger stripes cant be reapplied, theyre whats left over from heat treating, although you could get a boron carbide coating done on the blade with a tiger stripe finish (Like Rob Simonich does) "

that's what was in a just recent post, take what you will from it. i also really like the stripes, and mine are getting all bashed up from breaking glass and hitting stuff. it'd be nice if I could get ones put back on. boron carbide could be ok I guess. Does anyone have pics of boron carbide stripes?

Tiger stripes can be redone. You will have to talk to the Strider guys, and it may take a while. It's my understanding that the blade has to go through the preliminary part of the heat treat again. Bead blasting is a quicker way to make your Strider look new.
Thanks,
Scott

Mick or Duane,

Can one of you guys chime in here? Seems we have a conflict?

Thank You!

Yes they can, but it costs money and time.

Often when we get a knife back for recondition, we can clean it up and keep most of the stripes.
Sometimes not.

When we reapply them we usually do it using a Black Oxide process. Black Oxide actually penetrates the metal. It is Very similar to what occurs in HT.

Adding Tiger Stripes to your blade will cost you $25 on top of your recondition, and will take a while to finish.

Thanks

Mick

i was out of town for a few days...

so, redhook was asking if you can put TS onto a plain blade. and you say it'll be 25 on top of recondition.

how about if you already have TS. still 25?

you mention "on top of recondition." how much is reconditioning?

thanks,
randy
