Hi guys I have bought two new RAT's and I am waiting for them to arrive. I have seen a few RAT's where the coatings have been chipped off and I was wondering if they can be re-coated? I was not sure if there was someone who can do this or if the factory would redo them for a fee. Any info greatly appreciated.

I plan on using mine but just curious if they happened to peel or chip.

the coating doesnt chip it tends to be "gummy" and smear and wear off but not chip. Dont worry about it if you plan on using it the coating wear wont really metter.

WOW thank you for the super quick reply. I was just curious if they could be reconditioned to like new. I thought if they got really bad I could refinish them and then start all over  It seems after reading the the forum most just treat it like an old VW bug and accept it blemishes and all. I can live with it, just thought since I plan on keeping them forever would be nice to re-pretty ever so many years.

they make rhinoliner in the can, you could respray a coat on it every so often but I think that would take away all the history between you and your blades.

If you want a fresh coat on there, you could always use Duracoat and do it yourself. Tape off the edge and go for it. Tinkering is fun.

One tip that may or may not have any validity to it. When I got my RC-4 it was in the plastic bag and smelled so fresh that I wondered if letting in air out and cure for a couple of days would allow the finish to harden off a little more. At least before using it to baton wood or any other hard use.

If it gets too scarred up for you,you can always strip her down to bare steel.Alot of guys on the forums have done it.I have'nt done mine yet,but it's a thought.

For what it's worth I will most likely strip all my RATS. I'm working on stripping the Izula then I'll see how I like it.

I plan on refinishing some blades using Gun-Kote when they get sufficiently worn. Supposed to be pretty tough stuff. I'll post the info if / when I get around to going through with it.
