Can a registered user send a PM?

Just curious, I just had a guy who's a registered user send me a PM. Is that possible?

Perhaps he has a paid membership but has not yet updated his usergroup. This would give him PM privileges but he would still show as a Registered User.

Weird I have had registered individuals say they send me pms as well and never receive them.

They may not be sending actual Private Messages. People often use terms they've heard inexactly. Maybe sent email that didn't get through.

Or they could have sent visitor messages. Regardless, members without paid susbscriptions cannot send PMs
