Can a sharpening steel be turned into a knife?

Can a sharpening steel be reheated and forged into a knife?

Can they be hardened, what kinda steel do they use?

I just thought it would make a nice dagger or something.

well i dont think there made of good steel anymore. maybe case hardened, or there diamond incrusted. if you find a old one you just have to do a little guess, and check to see if its hardenable. for tools, there is no 1 steel used for a certain type of tool or for a certain company. companies are constanly changing there products steel, to get better, or cheaper value for their dollar.
