I have an charbroil grill that I don't use anymore. Can that be used as a forge? Can it take the heat? Do I need to put fire bricks in it or can I just put charcoal or coal on it and go? Thanks.

Thats what I used and it worked ok, but if you are gonna be doing it often then you should probably make something better

Do a search for "lively forge" Tim Lively has most all the info you need to build a charcoal forge including an easy to make and cheap homemede refractory. He uses a wash tub in his plans, but a grill would work as well, plus the grill has a lid which might could be used to increase the effiency of the forge. pending on your scrounging abilites and your collection of crap, you can convert the grill to a forge for maybe $20.

He has a video called
"Knifemaking Unplugged-Lively Forge"

You can buy it online downloadable from Amazon and it's available many other places on the web.
