Can any one direct me to Solid Steel Shafted Hatchets? The wood working kind.

Can any one tell me what are good affordable hatchets with a solid steel shaft like an Estwing, not a tubular steel shaft that can break, I gave away enough hatchet heads (way to many) from those that broke over the years. Those people made their own hatchets with them. (They had welding gear).

I am asking about regular hatchets for wood chopping and trimming and hatchety stuff. Tacti-Tomahawks are nice and all, but I am looking in to real literal wood working solid steel shaft hatchets.

I myself got an OKC Hawk Pick, and I love it for what it can do and rides on short day trips just because I want to take it instead of a "proper" hatchet as my old man says. Also a SPAX 16 for general emergency and a SPAX 36 for an emergency car tool.

My ignorance and my bad goggle-fu in looking of the available solid steel shafted hatchets have made me ask here where I'm sure I'll get some good advice.

I like Estwings but well, another type or two would be good to have I think.

i'm sure the 'hawk guys could help you with that, i don't know about the affordable bit. an estwing should be fine though

Have you considered Estwing Camper's Axe - 26" ?

I recently saw a "homemade" of what you seek... the welder was skilled... but man,
it was hefty.

Thanks people!

I finally got an idea to look for. Steels I've seen are 3Cr16, 5Cr and 420 HC in stainless steels but have no idea how they stand up to heavy abusive use.

The vaughans seem to be pretty good and solid like Estwings.
