is it like d2 in its stainless abilities or how does it stand up is it a good steel i did a search and could not find anything

A-2 is not stainless. It will rust and discolor. So will D2, but D2 is sometimes called a semi-stainless because it resists rust and stains better than a carbon steel.

My experience with A-2 is limited to Bark Rivers (three knives, but soon to be four when the Bravo-1 arrives). Only one is not A-2. It sharpens easily and holds its edge well. I'm not sure if it holds better than my 154CM, but, if not, it's pretty danged close.

I don;t like D2 anymore. I'd take an A-2, 154CM, S30V, or 1095 steel knife over D2 in a heartbeat. My Rat-3 in D2 holds an edge well, when I can get an edge on it!!! No more D2 for me until I can decipher the magic that is sharpening D2. Plus, in researching the internet, I recently learned A-2 is considered tougher than D2, with better edge-retention. That I did not know.

If you were considering A-2 in a knife blade, I, personally, would say don;t hesitate.

A-2 steel is much tougher and will hold and edge fairly well compared to D-2. I too prefer A-2 to D-2. I also have found that while using A-2 regularly i have not had an issue with rusting, it does form a nice patina that will protect from rust and pitting.
