About 25-30 years ago, got this piece in a collection. Been ALL OVER internet, can't find a model number. It is a FIXED 5 1/2 inch from guard to point hunter knife. Weird black,(micarta??) handle with inlaid? metal design on handles, and hook shaped pommel. The blade has the <what appears FACTORY> stamped word "REMINGTON" with underlines, that is ONLY info on knife. Thin metal handguard. Pommel is flat on the sides. Has a brown leather sheath but I think it is not original. HELP!!! Cant figure out how to post a picture, but I can email some if needed.

Shoot me an email with the photo, I will post it for you.

Any help would be appreciated.

The thing that keeps catching my eye is the sharp corner at the end of the grip, by the butt cap...
I don't know why but it looks "Off".

The one reason I don't think it is Frost made is the one reason that keeps throwing me sideways on several other fronts, and that is the very old "Remington" script that is Factory rolled into the blade. I just don't think it could be put in after market. Maybe the "customized and/or refinished" aspect is my best bet, but I have just never seen this kind of quality from somebody in his garage machine shop. And if so, what did it start life as with that HUGE chunk of metal by the guard. I mean, it is 3/4" thick there! It is NOT an add on, for sure. Even if it started as an RH50, for instance, and handles were changed or alter and pommel ground down, (which I agree, could be the best answer, ESPECIALLY with that weird sharp corner by the butt cap that NJBILLK mentioned), what is with that bulge? Are there any Rems out there that have that??

Don't let a stamp throw you. There were lots of stamped authorized and unauthorized reproductions and complete fakes 25+ years ago. No part of it is from a Remington made RH50. It is a fantasy knife of some sort. Frost might be a possibility for parts of the knife or the whole thing.

But it's not the mark used by Remington or PAL. (Only the "o" in Remington is close.) Who does that leave?

The RH50s I have are not stainless, are a skinning pattern, are marked on the ricasso, and are not nearly that thick.

You are a much better authority than I on such matters, but for the record, I agree. Nothing about that knife seems right to me.

Why are the position of the animals (deer?) swapped on each side of the knife?
Two in front on one side, two in the rear on the other. If it were factory scales, I think they would match.

This would result in two in the rear of or two in the front of the tree, either of which would be more pleasing to the eye.
