Can Anybody Tell Me About This Mora?

Hey guys,

I have been thinking about buying a Mora for a while, but was delighted to find this hiding in an old box of knives that my sister had. I know that the Morakniv company is a fairly new development, as both Frosts and Eriksson came together. However, I can't seem to find any information on this particular model anywhere. Can any of you Mora fans tell me some more about it? I'm interested to know how far in the tang goes; I'm guessing it's about half. I've been toying with the idea of re-handling it.

Sorry for having to link the pictures; I'm not sure how to embed them in the actual post.

Thanks for your time!

Hmmm ... looks like a Mora Classic in SS with a plastic handle. Maybe an early version of the Craftline or Allround.

Maybe email those images to Mora of Sweden?

Judging from posted x-ray images of Mora Craftsman knives, the tang could be only 1/2 to 1/3 deep.

I'm going to rehandle my Mora Companion HD. Just not happy with the way the current rubbery handle fits.

Good idea! I think I'll do that. The shape of the blade is familiar, but the handle isn't like anything I've seen before.

I'm curious: How are you going to secure the tang into the handle? I've never worked on a partial one before.

Epoxy. Youtube has several examples.

Also, saw one vid where they 'grafted' a threaded bolt to the end of the tang, making a 'full' tang, and then used a decorative cap nut at the end of the handle.

Update!

For anybody interested, I just received a reply from Steve at Industrial Revolution. Here's what he said about the knife:

It is a Frosts knife from ~1985. When KJ Eriksson (predecessor to Mora) made the Model 510 and 511 this is what Frosts had in their range. The blue handle shows that the blade is stainless. I would say that the closest knife of today would be the Allroun 546 though I would recommend a stainless Companion instead.

Looks like you were right on the money, TravisH!
